Which vehicles are affected by the recall?

Toyota Motor Sales is conducting a safety recall of approximately 1,124,000 RAV4 SUVs. The 2006-2012 RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV model years have been affected by this recall.

What is the recall for?

The involved vehicles are equipped with lap-shoulder seatbelts in both second-row outboard seats. There is a possibility that, in the event of a very severe frontal crash, the lap belt webbing could contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut, and separate. If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury.

What will be done to resolve the issue?

Owners of the involved vehicles will receive notification by first class mail. Toyota dealers will add resin covers to the metal seat cushion frame at no cost. Customers should have the issue repaired at a Toyota dealership as soon as possible after being notified that their vehicle is affected. VIN stands for "Vehicle Identification Number." This mix of seventeen letters and numbers is specific to your vehicle and defines its engine size, body style, model year, transmission type, colors, etc. All vehicles newer than 1980 have a VIN.

Where is my VIN located?

You can find your VIN on a small, metal plate that is attached to the driver's side of the dashboard, towards the top. This small, metal tag is designed to remain visible through the windshield for easy viewing. Every car is required to have one of these located in that place and it is illegal to remove or change this plate.
