Learn More About This Seatbelt Recall

Which vehicles are affected by the recall?

Toyota Motor Sales is conducting a safety recall of approximately 1,124,000 RAV4 SUVs. The 2006-2012 RAV4 and 2012-2014 RAV4 EV model years have been affected by this recall.

What is the recall for?

The involved vehicles are equipped with lap-shoulder seatbelts in both second-row outboard seats. There is a possibility that, in the event of a very severe frontal crash, the lap belt webbing could contact a portion of the metal seat cushion frame, become cut, and separate. If this occurs, the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant, which could increase the risk of injury.

What will be done to resolve the issue?

Owners of the involved vehicles will receive notification by first class mail. Toyota dealers will add resin covers to the metal seat cushion frame at no cost. Customers should have the issue repaired at a Toyota dealership as soon as possible after being notified that their vehicle is affected. Toyota Seatbelt Recall Information

Is there a way to check for recalls on my vehicle?

Information about automotive recalls, including but not limited to the list of involved vehicles, is subject to change over time. For the most up-to-date Safety Recall Information, Toyota customers should check their vehicle's status by visiting http://www.toyota.com/recall and entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Safety Recall inquiry by individual VIN is also available at the NHTSA site: safercar.gov/vin.

What is a VIN and how do I know what mine is?

VIN stands for "Vehicle Identification Number." This mix of seventeen letters and numbers is specific to your vehicle and defines its engine size, body style, model year, transmission type, colors, etc. All vehicles newer than 1980 have a VIN.

Where is my VIN located?

You can find your VIN on a small, metal plate that is attached to the driver's side of the dashboard, towards the top. This small, metal tag is designed to remain visible through the windshield for easy viewing. Every car is required to have one of these located in that place and it is illegal to remove or change this plate.

Who should I contact if I have additional questions?

For any additional questions, customer support is available by calling Toyota Customer Service at 1-800-331-4331.

From Toyota:
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. has announced that they are conducting a safety recall of about 1,124,000 RAV4 (MY 2006-2012) and RAV4 EV (MY 2012-2014) vehicles. The recall specifically covers affected vehicles with lap-shoulder seatbelts (located in the vehicle's second-row outboard seats).

Toyota has found that the affected vehicles, if involved in an severe frontal crash, could cause the lap belt's webbing to come into contact with the seat's cushion frame (made of metal). As a result, the webbing could cut and separate from the rest of the seatbelt - possibly increasing the risk of injury to a passenger.

Toyota will contact affected owners by first-class mail. Toyota of Greenville, along with all other certified Toyota service centers around the country, will resolve the issue by adding resin covers to the metal seat cushion frame.
