This weekend is the Memorial Day holiday. Are you ready for
the fun that is to be had? The grill is fired up, the pool is ready to be used,
and millions of us will be hitting the roads to get to our holiday destinations.
Since Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer,
many Americans will be traveling for the weekend in near-record numbers.
According to AAA, this year more than 41.5 million Americans will be traveling.
That’s a nearly 5% increase over last year’s totals and the highest number of
travelers than it has been in more than a dozen years. The increase in
travelers is happening even despite the fact that gas prices are higher than
they have been since 2014.
Still, the majority of travelers will be choosing to drive
to their Memorial Day vacation destinations, which means that now is the time
that you should start to make sure you are ready to make the drive. Therefore,
we have some extremely helpful tips to make sure you have a safe holiday
weekend.
If you’ve been neglecting your car, now is the
time to get that tune up. You’re absolutely going to want to make sure that
your vehicle is in tip top shape. So, make you get your oil changed, your tire
pressure checked, and that all your other issues have been addressed and everything

Avoid driving during peak hours. If you are
driving to your destination, it would be best to not drive when everyone else
is hitting the road too. So, if you can, try not to leave when everyone else
is. Consider leaving early on Friday morning, or coming home on Sunday evening.
Take lots of breaks. While it may be easy to
just keep wanting to drive to get to your destination, it’s going to be
important to stop when you feel those tell-tale signs of fatigue. So, stop,
grab a cup of coffee and stretch your legs. Driving is monotonous. Don’t let it
get to you.
One variable that can’t be predicted is how other
drivers are on the road, so make sure you are on high alert while driving this
weekend. Defensive driving during busy weekends like this is going to be imperative.
In addition, while driving, make sure the entire car is buckled up. No excuses.
Oh and if you have little ones in the back seat, make sure they are in proper
safety seats.
Don’t speed this weekend. The police are always
out in full force during holiday weekends. The last thing you want is an
expensive ticket to ruin the start or end of your vacation festivities.
